INFORMATION ABOUT MEMBERSHIP
AHCA, founded in 1980, has thirty-two years as the friends organization for Austin History Center. The Austin History Center continues as a top-quality research archive that preserves Austin’s community and local government history.
AHCA is growing & doing things which only happen with your support!
In recent past and current times, AHCA has:
• Partnered with Austin History Center to sponsor programs celebrating exhibits on Austin’s First Moviehouses, the 100th Anniversary of the Austin Symphony Orchestra, and the current exhibit: Building A Community: The First Century of African American Life in Travis County. Additionally, AHCA has sponsored or co-sponsored fifteen compelling author, scholar, performer, and walking tour programs.
• Raised funds that procured two new beautiful exhibit cases for Austin History Center honoring the memory of the late Austin artist George Attal. Additionally, in 2010, AHCA raised $50,000 including a $25,000 matching grant from the Still Water Foundation to help Austin History Center raise $200,000 to purchase a great collection of archival papers and letters that belonged to Texas Governor E.M. Pease and his wife Lucadia.
• Sold $12,000 of books, DVDs, poster maps, paintings, and notecards/postcards items from our publishing entity Waterloo Press. Our highlight item continues to be the book The Republic of Austin by Dr. Jeff Kerr – a wonderful book of stories about Austin in the Republic of Texas era. The Republic of Austin is now in its 3rd printing, with over 1500 books sold.
• Honored six living former Mayors of Austin at our last two Angelina Eberly annual luncheons at The Driskill, with two more mayors to be honored next February.
• Publishes three printed newsletters each year, called Austin Remembers.
