Kathie Tovo

Kathie served on the Austin City Council from 2011 to 2023. She was elected to the last at-large Council on June 18, 2011, and was re-elected and began serving on the first geographically elected City Council in January 2015. From 2015-2018, she served as Mayor Pro Tem. Prior to taking office, Tovo taught writing and interdisciplinary studies at the college level and worked at Humanities Texas, the state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. She holds both a master’s degree and a doctorate.
